BIOGRAPHY
Prof. Dr. Muharrem TUNA was born in Kilis in 1972. He graduated from Gazi University’s Faculty of Commerce and Tourism Education, Department of Tourism Management Education, in 1994 and was appointed as a research assistant at the same faculty a year later. After completing his master’s and doctoral degrees in the Department of Tourism Management at Gazi University’s Institute of Social Sciences, he was promoted to Assistant Professor at the faculty where he worked.
Between 2002 and 2008, he served as the director of Gazi University’s Sungurlu Vocational School and as a member of the university senate. During this period, he conducted postdoctoral studies at Michigan State University in the United States for six months and earned the title of Associate Professor at the same university in 2008. Alongside his teaching role, Dr. Tuna undertook various academic responsibilities, including vice-dean, department head, and other academic leadership roles. In 2014, he was appointed a Professor in the Department of Tourism Management at Gazi University’s Faculty of Tourism.
Prof. Dr. Muharrem TUNA has held significant positions, such as Chair of the scientific committee of the 3rd Tourism Council, Deputy Chair and rapporteur of the Specialization Commission on Tourism for the 11th and 12th Development Plans, and coordinator of the TRNC Tourism Council. He is the President of the Association of Tourism Academics (TUADER) and the Tourism Education Evaluation and Accreditation Board (TURAK).
Prof. Dr. Muharrem TUNA conducts scientific research in tourism management, management, strategy, organizational behavior, and quality. He is fluent in English, married, and has two children.
Workshop: Research Funding: Hard nut to crack?
Professor Levent Altinay will share his experience of successful funding applications to the prestigious funding bodies including EU, Horizon, ESRC (Economic Social Research Council), Newton, British Academy, British Council and TUBITAK. During the workshop, Altinay will cover a wide range of topics including creative idea generation for research funding, formation of multidisciplinary research consortiums, use of networks, research design, dissemination of research findings and the generation of academically robust, practically meaningful research impact.
